Wildfire Danger Declaration Extended

The City of El Campo is on high alert due to the ongoing wildfire danger. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index indicates that the soil needs nearly eight inches of rain to become saturated. This summer, El Campo volunteers have responded to 10 grass fires. A recent blaze near a warehouse demonstrated how quickly danger can escalate. A disaster declaration covering the next six months is in effect, allowing the city to respond effectively. This declaration may lead to FEMA and Texas Department of Emergency Management funding if needed.
