Arrests in Two Counties

Two people got arrested in two different counties. A woman from Victoria, Jennifer Pesak, was arrested in DeWitt County with six charges, including having a gun illegally. Sergeant Academy

Sergeant Ashley Strelec of Wharton Police Department is attending the 21st Texas Sergeant Academy in Sugar Land. This program, run by the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration, trains new leaders from 21 Texas agencies. The curriculum focuses on leadership, communication, ethics, and accountability. Since its inception in 2017, over 600 officers have graduated.

Texas Seniors Scholarship Offer

Texas high school seniors can win a $2,500 scholarship from the Carlson Law Firm. Apply online, share what motivates you in a short video or essay, and provide proof of enrollment. Apply by April 18th, winners announced April 22nd. The scholarship will be sent directly to the school for tuition and related costs.

Comic Con Returns

Victoria Comic Con returned to Victoria Community Center over the weekend, after a four-year hiatus. The event was held in a center that usually hosts formal events or livestock shows. Attendees enjoyed a wall-to-wall pop culture-palooza with full anime cosplay, celebrity guests doing signings and panels, families enjoying various vendors and activities, and more.

Adoption Event

On Monday, Wharton County’s Stray Pet Outreach Team hosted a Resolution Dog Adoption event at Tractor Supply in Wharton. Cute pets ready for adoption were vaccinated, treated for pests, and set for spaying/neutering and chipping. The adoption fee was $125 with a $50 co-pay for procedures that would normally cost over $500.

Electric Bus Grant

Bay City School District got a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to replace 10 old school buses with new electric ones. Charity Ball

The Bay City Junior Service League is hosting its annual Charity Ball on Saturday, February 3rd. The event is a fundraiser for the League, and all proceeds go to worthy organizations in Matagorda County. Wreck Kills Driver

Gas station footage captured a truck running a red light, slamming into a Ford Mustang, killing the driver, Aaron Lenhart, 23, in Matagorda County. Gabriel Forcado, 20, received a citation for disregarding the red light, but tests showed no alcohol or drugs. Lenhart was obeying signals when the collision occurred.
