Election Victory

Victoria County Sheriff Justin Marr won his re-election in a landslide. He’s grateful for the trust and plans to keep working hard on public safety. He’s focused on border security issues and tackling crime. He also wants to address mental health challenges in the community.

Citizen Police Academy

The Palacios Police Department is offering a 6-week Citizen Police Academy course to help locals understand how they work. It starts on April 2nd, and covers topics like traffic rules and police pursuits. After graduating, you might get to join the Citizen’s on Patrol Program. If you’re interested, apply by March 22nd.

Boling wants to build a new elementary school. They’re asking voters to approve a $40.5 million bond in May. The current school, Newgulf Elementary, is old and needs replacing. Locked Up

A 19-year-old named Nathan Perez in Victoria got arrested for serious charges: two counts of using a deadly weapon to hurt someone, firing a gun recklessly, and being part of organized crime. He’s locked up in the Victoria County Jail with no chance of getting out on bond.

Mega Drug Bust

Last Saturday, in Wharton County, the Texas DPS cops found 86 pounds of cocaine in a big truck on US 59. Wharton County Sheriff’s K9, ‘Kai,’ sniffed out the drugs hidden in the truck. Big thanks to the cops for keeping our neighborhoods safe from these drugs.

Bridge Renovations

Wharton County is renovating three bridges, and thanks to a new law, the state will cover all costs. Instead, the county will work on another bridge.. The total cost could be around $600,000 to $700,000. The resolution was passed unanimously by the county commissioners.

McAllister Honored

Harmon Jerome McAllister, the namesake of the now-demolished McAllister Jr. High, was honored with a Texas Historical Marker. The community gathered at the former school site, now Linnie Roberts Elementary, for the unveiling. McAllister, a dedicated educator, taught business administration at Bay City High School after earning his degree in 1933.

BBQ cook-off

The Wharton County Youth Fair is back with a BBQ cook-off this weekend. For the first time, there’s a margarita contest on Friday night.
