Judge Finlay Retires

After two decades serving Matagorda County, Judge Mark Finlay is retiring. He passed the robe to Suzanne Sullivan, chosen by both judges as the best candidate. Shop with a Cop

Law enforcement officers joined 38 excited kids for Shop with a Cop, a yearly event. Kids, armed with $200 each for Christmas gifts, raced through Walmart aisles. Bay City Police credited donors for making it possible. The program benefits families in need, making Christmas gifts accessible, while fostering positive relationships between officers and the community.

Trial Uncertain Before Retirement

The person accused of a toddler’s death may not face trial before the district attorney retires next year. The case, pending for twice as long as the child lived, involves 28-year-old Angel Castro of El Campo. She’s accused of killing 19-month-old Roselynn Coates, and is not in custody. Currently, cases involving inmates take priority.

K9 Vest Donation Received

K9 Thor, a police dog from Wharton County Sheriff’s Office, got a bulletproof vest from a non-profit, Vested Interest in K9s. The Iron Pigs Motorcycle Club of Olympia, Washington raised funds for it. The vest honors those who served and sacrificed. It’s worth $1800, weighs about 4-5 lbs, and has a five-year warranty.

El Campo Closure Celebration

In the holiday spirit, the City of El Campo offices will be closed on Wednesday December 20th from 1 to 5 PM. It’s hardworking team will be celebrating Christmas together as a close-knit City family. They apologize for any inconvenience and will be back to regular office hours on Thursday.

Mourned Teen’s Tragic Loss

On Wednesday in Nebraska, friends and family mourned for Lizabeth Medina. A heartfelt service at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island drew many to bid farewell. Lizabeth lived in Grand Island until a year ago,when she moved Edna. A GoFundMe page has raised over $20,000 to support her loved ones.
