Motorcycle Crash

On Monday afternoon, near the intersection of SH 119 and Sunday Lane, a motorcycle collided with a dump truck. The truck was turning left from SH 119 onto Sunday Lane and didn’t give way to the motorcycle. Sadly, the rider, 61 year old Michael Flechsig, from El Campo, lost his life in the accident.

New Med Rules

New rules on giving meds at schools. Nurses now need doctor’s orders, not just for prescriptions but also non-prescription drugs. Before, parents’ notes were okay for over-the-counter meds, but now it’s stricter. Students can still get non-prescription drugs for 10 days with a parent’s note, but after that, a doctor’s order is a must.

Solar Tax Breaks Approved

Matagorda County Commissioners approved tax breaks for Lyondell Bassell’s solar projects with Industrial Sun. CEO Wade Gungoll says it’ll save money and boost sustainability. The projects will bring a $1.6 million benefit in the first three years, according to Mike Ferdinand, Matagorda County Economic Development Director.

High-Speed Chase Ends

A man from Palacios led police on a high-speed chase near El Campo, reaching 140 mph before a tire blew out. The driver, Matthew Ray Guevara, was arrested for evading arrest. Holiday Closure and Trash

El Campo City Hall will be closed for Christmas on December 25th and 26th reopening on December 27th. Texas Disposal Systems won’t collect waste on Christmas Day. Collections will be a day late: Monday’s pickup will be on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s on Wednesday. Remember to put your cart out by 6 AM.
