Parade Rescheduled

Bay City’s Christmas parade is now on Thursday, Dec. 14th at 7 p.m. due to last Friday’s cancellation caused by thunderstorms. Safety concerns for participants, volunteers, and staff prompted the rescheduling. The route, entry numbers, and staging area stay unchanged. The Parks and Recreation Department will notify all parade entries about the new date.

Burglary Acquittal After Delays

A guy in Wharton County was accused of burglary and family violence. The jury in the 23rd District Court says he’s not guilty after a trial that took more than three years because of COVID delays. He was arrested in 2020 after being found in a house on Charlie Street.

How Now Black Cow

The Wharton County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the owner of a black cow that has been wandering around the area of 16000 County Road 208, in East Bernard, near the dead end for about a week. The cow has a yellow ear tag with the number 64.

Teacher Convicted of Abuse

A former kindergarten teacher in Fort Bend County has been convicted of sexually abusing a six-year-old student in 2021. Troi Phillip Moore, 47, agreed to a 10-year sentence for each case, with no appeal. He isolated the child in the classroom and engaged in sexual contact. I-69 Crash Caused Closure

On Monday, a crash between a dump truck and heavy machinery closed all northbound lanes of I-69/US 59 at Highway 36. Traffic was diverted to the feeder road at Highway 36. I-69 remained closed for several hours. No word about any injuries.

Historical Award for Eagle Lake native

Dr. Sandra C. Thomas, a native of Eagle Lake, was awarded the Award of Merit by the Texas Historical Commission for her contributions to preserving and advancing Texas history. She has authored several hundred published articles and books on local history.

Victoria Mayoral Special Election

Victoria residents can pick from six candidates in the upcoming mayoral special election on Feb. 3rd. The winner will serve until May 2025, filling Mayor Jeff Bauknight’s term. The City Council called this election because Bauknight aims to run for the Texas House of Representatives, triggering an automatic resignation as per the Texas Constitution.
