Drug Bust on I-69

During a regular traffic stop early Sunday morning on I-69, Rosenberg Police found over two pounds of Black Tar Heroin worth about $15,000 and $6,000 in cash. Two Californians were arrested for drug trafficking. The police department sees this as just another day on the job.

Overpass Project Update

The city manager and mayor of Wharton drove on the new CR 1301 overpass with permission from TxDOT. It’s wide and expected to be finished by late summer. Even though construction isn’t always visible, it’s ongoing. The road surface is being prepared, and utility relocation for the I-69 project is set to start in March.

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

In Victoria, a 32-year-old person named Tony Mendez from Ganado was arrested by the police on Friday. The charges against him include Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Trespass. Currently, he is being held in the Victoria County Jail with a bond set at $52,50

Hit-and-Run Driver

The Sheriff’s office needs your help finding a hit-and-run driver. On Feb. 7th, between 4:30-5 p.m., a white Nissan Altima hit a pedestrian on Farm-to-Market Road 446. Fire destroys home

The Jasek’s, a family in East Bernard lost their home to a fire last Friday. Luckily, no one was home and their dog, Chico, was saved by a neighbor. The community is rallying around them, with Lupe’s Mexican Cafe hosting a benefit today from 11am to 9pm and donating 10% of sales to the family.

Tunnel Foot Chase

A man named Angel Ramirez was arrested in Victoria, after he ran from his car and hid in a tunnel. He was spotted by a deputy sheriff at a traffic light. Boarding Home Operator Arrested

51 year old Samantha Morris, a boarding home operator in Fort Bend County, was arrested after deputies found nine neglected individuals in her facility. Five were hospitalized. Morris is charged with operating without a permit. Investigations are ongoing into the illegal operation and potential neglect.

Cremation Columbarium Fundraiser

Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna is fundraising to build a columbarium, a structure for storing urns, due to the increasing preference for cremation over burial. They’ve raised $38,000 for the columbarium and need an additional $7,000-$7,500 for its concrete base. The columbarium will have 72 niches, each capable of holding two urns. Donations are welcome.
