County Government Month

In April, our county celebrated County Government Month. Students from five high schools visited Wharton to witness commissioners’ court sessions, understand voting significance, tour the county jail, and observe judicial proceedings at the District Court. With 382 students participating in six learning stations, the event aimed to educate and inspire future leaders.

In El Campo, a tracking device meant for a young offender was found detached and abandoned. Police are now searching for the teen who slipped away from their electronic monitor. Bike Smasher Arrested

In El Campo, a man allegedly smashed three Harley-Davidson bikes outside a restaurant, causing over $40,000 in damage. Pedro Cura-Hernandez, 28, was arrested for this and for violating probation. He and Omar Reyes got into an argument with bikers earlier. They returned later, intentionally backing up a black GMC pickup onto the motorcycles.
