A fatal crash occurred last Friday night on U.S. 59 near Hungerford. A 73-year-old Victoria man was killed, and his 36-year-old relative from Houston was critically injured while working on their semi-truck on the highway’s shoulder. A passing box truck struck the broken-down truck, causing the crash. Investigators believe poor lighting on the semi contributed to the accident. The injured man was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Meanwhile, a separate crash near El Campo on Saturday left one man trapped in a pickup, requiring rescue by firefighters.
