In Victoria, 65-year-old Don Bates was arrested for allegedly assaulting his common-law wife. On August 6, police responded to a call and found the woman with facial bruises and neck redness. She claimed Bates punched her eight times and choked her while holding a knife. Bates was charged with aggravated assault and taken to Victoria County Jail.
