Clean energy program

El Campo City Council has given the green light to a clean energy program for multi-family and commercial developers. Administered through Texas PACE, the program will allow for clean energy air-conditioners, water systems and other devices to be paid for over time via a levy similar to a tax. With little risk for the city, the program saves developers on up-front costs, allowing for clean energy products to be financed for longer terms. Although the program’s focus is on multifamily housing and business development, Councilwoman Gloria Harris inquired if there are any plans to expand the program to residential areas. So far, there are no pending efforts to do so.
