Firefighters Serve Up Thanks

In El Campo, firefighters traded their hoses for fryers last week, serving up golden oysters and fish at their annual Appreciation Supper. Inside the Civic Center, more than two thousand donors filled their plates as local volunteers dished out some 225 gallons of oysters and nearly a thousand pounds of fish. The event, often called the Oyster Supper, honors supporters who help keep the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department running. While tax funds and city support cover part of their needs, donations and grants fuel the rest.
