Federal Project Brings New Protection to Coast

A major federal investment is heading to Matagorda County with an eighty-six million dollar project aimed at long-term coastal protection. Officials say sand dredged from the Colorado River channel will be reused to rebuild Sargent Beach, one of the county’s most erosion-prone areas. Leaders say the project will help shield homes, roads, and businesses from storm damage while keeping the river open for commercial traffic. The work is also expected to strengthen the Port of Bay City and support the local coastal economy.
