The Wharton Tigers’ playoff run ended last Thursday night in New Caney with a 51-21 loss to West Orange-Stark. Early special teams mistakes put Wharton in a deep hole, giving the Mustangs quick points before the Tigers found their rhythm. Brandon Sims delivered two big touchdowns, and Ja’Keon Jackson added another to cut the lead, but the comeback fell short. Junior Layden Wynn led a strong defensive effort. First-year head coach Jason Haddock says the team grew a lot this season and expects returning underclassmen to come back stronger next year.
