Make Homes Easy to Find

Wharton County officials are urging residents to make sure their home addresses are easy to see from the road. Emergency crews say unclear or missing address numbers can delay response times when seconds matter most. City ordinances require addresses to be in four-inch contrasting numbers visible from the street, but county homes aren’t covered by that rule. Still, Emergency Management Coordinator Andy Kirkland says it’s common sense to keep them posted. He adds that marking both sides of mailboxes and keeping written directions nearby can help responders find you faster—day or night.
