El Campo is mourning the loss of a newly hired EMT after a deadly crash near Point Comfort. Investigators say 19-year-old Daniel Cuellar of Port Lavaca ran off FM 2143 near Highway 35 Wednesday morning and hit a tree. He was airlifted but rerouted to OakBend in Wharton, where he died hours later. Cuellar joined El Campo EMS in June and was praised for wanting to serve the community. A public memorial happened Sunday at Bauer Community Center in Port Lavaca.
