The Wharton VFW Auxiliary Post 4474 is collecting new sweatpants, sweatshirts, and hoodies for hospitalized veterans. Donation boxes are set up through Oct. 6 at six Wharton locations, including Ace Hardware, Barbee Electric, and Tractor Supply. All sizes for men and women are welcome, but items must be new. The clothing will be delivered to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston along with Christmas stockings. Organizers say local businesses like Wharton Feed & Supply have already stepped up to support the “Sweats for Vets” drive.
