Matagorda County faces higher diabetes rates than most of Texas, ranking seventh locally for related deaths. To fight the trend, the Matagorda Regional Medical Center Wellness Center and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension hosted a free “Lunch and Learn” in Bay City recently. Guests sampled healthy dishes during live cooking demos and learned easy ways to add movement into daily life to help manage type 2 diabetes. Organizers said more sessions are coming to give residents practical tools for healthier living and better blood sugar control.
