Wharton County Seeks Grant

Wharton County is stepping up efforts to control feral hog damage. Commissioners will consider a $17,000 state grant today to buy four more Pig Brig traps, adding to the six already in use. These nets have captured more than 630 hogs since 2024, saving farms from major crop loss. Unlike costly helicopter hunts, the traps catch entire groups, including piglets, which greatly reduces damage. The meeting will be at the Courthouse Annex in Wharton. Officials will also review plans for new carpet and election equipment.
