ISD Launches Locked Phone Case Policy

Wharton ISD is rolling out a strict new cellphone policy this school year, following a unanimous school board vote and a new state law. Superintendent Oduwole says students bringing devices will get a barcoded, magnetic-lock case they carry all day. The case unlocks only at designated school stations or during parent checkouts. Lost or damaged cases cost $30 to replace. Funded by a state grant, the district bought 1,300 cases for $23,000. Neighboring districts, including East Bernard, El Campo, Boling, and Louise, are enforcing similar device restrictions.
