Last week, Matagorda’s veteran Don Simons was honored at Disney World’s daily Flag Retreat ceremony. Each day, Disney selects a veteran or service member visiting the park to participate in this patriotic event at Magic Kingdom’s Main Street, where the American flag is respectfully lowered. The ceremony includes the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem, showing gratitude for those who served. Don’s family watched proudly as cast members and guests thanked him warmly. After years of feeling unappreciated, Don finally felt truly honored.
