Suspended After Bullying Investigation

Wharton Police Chief Terry Lynch was suspended in January after an HR investigation found he and another officer engaged in “mutual bullying.” The complaint accused Lynch of micromanaging, broken promises, and inappropriate jokes. Both were ordered to take ethics training. Lynch served a five-day suspension—three days unpaid—and completed leadership training. The city found no evidence Lynch made racist remarks. Both men remain on the job. Lynch, a longtime Wharton resident and law enforcement veteran, says he’s accepted responsibility and is ready to move forward.
