El Campo has earned statewide recognition for its beautification efforts, with the city’s “Keep El Campo Beautiful” program awarded the Gold Star Affiliate status by Keep Texas Beautiful. This top rating is a result of major community cleanups, like the Fall Sweep, and the creation of a wildflower garden near City Hall. In total, 46 tons of waste were removed, saving resources and reducing landfill fees. The city council praised volunteer leader Bill Smartt and staff member Krystal Hasselmeier for their hard work in making this achievement possible.
