A new Texas Historical Marker was unveiled Saturday in Louise, preserving the story of the 1881 railroad depot at 202 South. The depot was part of the New York, Texas and Mexican Railway, also called “The Macaroni Railroad,” an Italian-owned project meant to stretch to Mexico City but only reached Victoria. Louise ISD teacher Joe Cardenas led a three-year effort to honor the site’s history. The ceremony featured local historians and descendants sharing stories of the railroad’s impact on Wharton County.
