Following a Texas law passed in ’23 requiring armed officers in every public school, districts have struggled to meet the requirement due to insufficient funding. However, districts argue it’s far from the $100 per student needed. Despite a proposed additional $500 million from Gov. Greg Abbott, school leaders and a nationwide shortage of officers continue to pose challenges. More funding is critical.
