El Campo ISD employees will receive a $1,500 retention bonus this December, thanks to a unanimous school board vote. The bonus, aimed at showing appreciation for staff, follows the district’s recovery from a $1.1 million budget shortfall caused by a Central Appraisal District error. With the Texas Education Agency reallocating missing funds, the district will use $750,000 from its $9 million general fund balance to distribute checks to about 500 employees. Eligible staff must have worked since August 14 and remain employed by December 13. Part-time staff will get a prorated amount.
