Two retired law enforcement veterans are competing for sheriff in the Nov. 5th election in Matagorda County, with early voting starting on Oct. 21st. Republican Rick DeLeon of Bay City, a Marine veteran and former sergeant-at-arms in the Texas Senate, is running against Democrat Aaron Green of Markham, a former military policeman and longtime sheriff’s reserve captain. Both are active in local organizations, with Green also serving as a former Justice of the Peace and DeLeon deeply involved in community groups.
