Residents in Wharton County are now facing higher utility bills, with El Campo seeing its second rate hike of the year and Wharton experiencing its first. El Campo’s water base rate jumped from $14.75 to $16.25 for 2,000 gallons, and sewer from $16 to $17.50. Seniors face some what smaller increases. Meanwhile, Wharton’s 5,000-gallon water users will now pay $121.03, up from previous rates. In contrast, East Bernard residents continue to enjoy significantly lower rates, with water starting at $9 for 3,000 gallons and no extra sewer fees.
