A Wharton man, Daveon Marqui Allen, who previously pleaded guilty to murder, withdrew his plea in a Wharton court on Friday. He now faces a capital murder charge for the 2021 Thanksgiving shooting of Larry Joe Guerra during a robbery at Meadows Apartments. If convicted, Allen faces life in prison without parole. The District Attorney’s office stated this plea withdrawal delays other cases, though victims will be notified. Allen had initially agreed to a lesser charge, but now faces a harsher sentence if found guilty by a jury next month.
