Construction on a major green fuel facility in Bay City has been delayed due to regulatory issues at state, federal, and international levels. High Innovative Fuels (HIF) plans to supply green methanol, a clean fuel made from renewable energy, to the shipping industry. The company is also eyeing future partnerships in aviation. HIF’s USA CEO said they are waiting on International Maritime Organization guidelines, expected in 2025, before signing contracts. The facility is projected to create 5,000 temporary jobs and 150 permanent ones, with local schools involved in workforce preparation.
