In Matagorda, a ceremony honored the local history of the Texas Navy and commissioned new admirals, including County Judge Bobby Seiferman and five others. The event, led by Admiral Beth Fisher, highlighted the key role Matagorda played in 1835 when local men purchased the schooner Liberty, which helped win the Battle of San Jacinto by blocking Mexican reinforcements. Matagorda’s Volunteer Fire Department also celebrated the near-completion of their new rescue boat, marking it as a symbolic addition to the legacy of protecting the community, much like the original Texas Navy.
