A Calhoun County jury sentenced Blake Downs to 30 years in prison for the 2022 shooting death of 19-year-old Coewin Boerm in Port Lavaca. Downs shot Boerm on April 9, 2022, at his Holloman Road home, in an outbuilding while a family member was asleep inside. The jury found Downs guilty after three hours of deliberation. He will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years.
