El Campo has made history by electing its first Hispanic mayor, retired firefighter Eugene Bustamante. Winning the most votes among six candidates, he’ll wield the mayor’s gavel for two years. Bustamante, who’s served the community in various roles including with the fire department and local charities, sees his win as a milestone.
