Local Congressman Troy Nehls has introduced a new bill to help shrimp farmers in Matagorda County. The Save Our Shrimpers Act has bipartisan support and aims to stop funding to foreign shrimp farms. This comes as U.S. shrimpers face tough competition from dumped foreign shrimp. Matagorda County’s shrimp industry has been hit hard, with last summer’s disaster announcment. Despite being the top port in the U.S. for shrimp, Palacios is feeling the strain.
