Wharton County officials decided to replace a structurally damaged bridge on County Road 215 over the West Bernard Creek. The Texas Department of Transportation had closed the bridge due to safety concerns. The county had hoped to keep it open with temporary repairs, but TxDOT insisted on its closure. Now, thanks to federal funding from the Infrastructure Investment in Jobs Act, the bridge will be fully rebuilt sooner than expected.
