Off-duty Wharton County Sheriff’s Officer, Cpl. Hunter Koudela, was honored for his quick thinking and bravery when he saved a man’s life. The man had accidentally shot himself in the foot with a crossbow while hunting, hitting an artery. Koudela, who was nearby, heard the call on the radio and arrived at the scene within three minutes. He applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding until EMS arrived.
