Wharton City Council Doings

The Wharton City Council is considering creating a Public Improvement District (PID) to fund new developments. This means new residents and home buyers, not current homeowners, would pay for these improvements. The PID would impose assessments on purchased property within the district, with each new home buyer responsible for an annual assessment for a specified number of years. The city is also considering a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, an economic development tool to incentivize development and redevelopment. In other news, the council will discuss a request for street closures and other arrangements for Wharton Harvest Day on Oct. 28th.
