A man from Danevang died Thursday in a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 71 South near the intersection of FM 441 South. The other driver, a Florida man, is in serious condition at El Campo Memorial Hospital. The vehicles involved were a Hyundai Sonata driven by Melvin Lubin and a Honda Civic driven by Francisco Velasquez. The Sonata failed to yield the right-of-way to the Civic, causing the crash. Velasquez was pronounced dead at the scene while Lubin was transported to the hospital. It is unknown whether either or both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. .
