Dealer Appeals Prison Time

Lawrence Herald Jr., a 78-year-old Fentanyl dealer from El Campo, is appealing his life sentence and requesting a new trial, just a month after being imprisoned. Despite fleeing the jurisdiction, he was captured and transported to prison. While his appeal is considered, he’s serving his sentence at the McConnell unit. This case is notable as Herald was the first in Wharton County to receive a life sentence under new Fentanyl laws. The county is still deciding whether to charge him with bail jumping.
