Wharton County DA Dawn Allison retirement

Dawn Allison, the current Wharton County District Attorney, has announced that she will not seek re-election next year. She cited family as the reason for her decision, specifically her three grandchildren aged 6, 8, and 10. Allison expressed her desire to retire and spend more time with her family after her term ends on December 31, 2024. She also mentioned that in an ideal world, she would take a year off and then return to work. Allison was first appointed to office by Governor Gregg Abbott in 2016 and has since won two challenged elections .
