Governor Greg Abbott recently signed House Bill 1819, putting an end to curfews for minors enforced by cities starting September 1st. The aim of these ordinances was to protect children from crime and aid parents in supervision. Both Bay City and Palacios had curfew ordinances for minors, which restricted them from being out late on weekdays and weekends. While some saw these rules as outdated, local authorities believed they were still essential. The Palacios Police Chief anticipated a possible increase in juveniles out late but assured that officers would prioritize their safety. Bay City Police reported few curfew violations in recent years.
