Texas Toughens Move Over Law

Starting September 1st, Texas is toughening up its “Move Over, Slow Down” law. When passing a stopped vehicle on the freeway, drivers must move over or slow down to 20 MPH below the limit. First-time non-compliance leads to a $500-$1,250 fine, while causing injury is a Class A misdemeanor with up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. Repeat offenders face $1,000-$2,000 fines without injury. Repeating with injury is a felony, carrying up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
