Strong Sales Tax Growth

El Campo’s economy and city officials are celebrating a second month of unexpectedly robust sales tax rebate growth. This surge, attributed to community support for local businesses, is a boon for the city. The August rebate check from the state comptroller’s office shows an impressive 24.52 percent increase compared to last year. This follows similarly positive trends in July and June, with growth rates of 25.85 percent and 22.61 percent, respectively. Despite a first-quarter dip, El Campo’s City Manager sees this as great news, providing financial relief as the year wraps up and influencing next year’s budget decisions.
