Around 20,000 daily drivers will be impacted by a $524 million project turning U.S. 59 into I-69 from Wharton to El Campo. It’s part of a $1.064 billion dollar funding for Texas Department of Transportation’s Yoakum District. The stretch will have three lanes in each direction, frontage roads, and limited access points. Other projects are planned for Wharton County, with a focus on rural connections and economic growth. Upgrades to U.S. 59 began earlier, and construction between El Campo and Wharton is planned between 2024 and 2027
