Last Sunday emergency services rushed to a building fire at 1816 Bayou Dr, Bay City. The fire started in the kitchen and spread through the dining and family room. Firefighters contained the blaze in 3 hours, preventing further damage to the attic. Thankfully, the homeowner is safe, but a few firefighters were treated for heat stress. Damage is estimated at $100 grand. Special thanks to Sargent, Matagorda, and Midfield Volunteer Fire Departments for their crucial assistance. A reminder from the fire marshal: always watch stove-cooking and keep a working fire extinguisher in your kitchen.
