On Tuesday a building fire occurred at Paradise Inn, Bay City. Thankfully, the motel staff quickly used fire extinguishers to put out the flames in room 108, which were limited to a garbage can and dresser. The fire department arrived and cleared the smoke. Damage was around $250, but no one was hurt. The cause was improper disposal of smoking materials. It’s a reminder to smokers to fully extinguish cigarettes before throwing them away, and to use wetting methods for added safety. Also, working smoke detectors are essential to prevent potential tragedies.
