Bay City has spent $100 grand from the American Rescue Plan Act grant to encrypt their police radios, putting an end to the days of listening to scanner traffic for patrol calls and detective work. The decision was made to protect patient privacy and ensure officer safety. Dan Shook, the Bay City Radio System Coordinator, proposed using the grant funds over a year ago, and now that the equipment and software have arrived, the project is nearing completion. The encryption is scheduled to be launched on July 1st.
