In Texas, the issue of lead piping in the state’s water system is a concern and ranks fifth in the nation for having the most lead piping. The city of El Campo is actively monitoring its water system to prevent lead contamination in local drinking water. Lead testing is regularly conducted, as even small amounts of lead can cause brain damage and developmental delays in children. The most recent testing in El Campo, as reported in the city’s Annual Quality Water Report for 2022, showed that none of the 30 tested sites had a concerning level of lead in the water.
