Volunteers in Fort Bend County cleaned up historic Black gravesites over the Juneteenth weekend. These sites, located in Bates Allen Park, held the remains of former slaves who founded the City of Kendleton, including notable individuals like the first Black state representative and the first African-American sheriff in the United States. A volunteer stressed the importance of performing acts of kindness without expecting anything in return and how they contribute to making a positive impact on the world. Plans for an African-American memorial near the gravesites will be announced in the fall.
