The El Campo Civic Center is getting renovated, which means higher rental fees. Cosmetic upgrades and improvements to lighting, fire systems, and parking are included. The Duson Room’s audio/visual system will also be upgraded. The center is widely used by organizations and events. The proposed fee increase will be discussed in the summer and may take effect in the fall. Mayor Barbee wants minimal increases to prevent other venues from being more attractive. Rental prices range from $275 to $2,000. A $2.9 million renovation was done in 2009.
